Rainforests play a critical role in conserving and maintaining the Earth’s health. Rainforests are home to more than50% of the world’s species of flora and fauna and help maintain our planet’s freshwater levels and regulate temperatures and weather patterns. For a one-of-a-kind tropical experience, explore one of these six great rainforests.

Harapan Rainforest

It is one of the biodiversity hotspots in the world and provides a home for the most threatened wildlife, such as the Sumatran Tiger and Clouded Leopard. The forest is also a haven for more than 305 bird species. Other critically endangered plants and Rafflesia are also found in the forest. Such amazing characteristics have compelled environmentalists to nickname it the forest of hope.

El Yunque National Forest

It is a subtropical rainforest in Puerto Rico. It is made up of just 28,000 acres, but it makes up for its relatively small size with its tropical splendors. The forest has approximately 240 tree species, 23 of which are unique to this forest. The long miles of hiking trails, including the La Mina trail, provide the best spots for tourists.

Daintree National Park

The Daintree rainforest lies on the northeast coast of Queensland, Australia. It is among the oldest tropical rainforests, and in 1988, it was listed as a Heritage site by UNESCO. Earliest plants, such as Psilotopsida and Lycopsida, are found in this park.

Bako National Park

Bako is the oldest park in Sarawak and is located 37kilometers from Kuching. One unique thing about that rainforest is that it hosts the highest number of the unique Probosci monkeys, pangolin, slow loris, and flying lemurs.

Yasuni National Park

Lying in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, Yasuni National park hosts more than 150 animal species. Yasuni is the largest preserved rainforest in continental Ecuador and protects significant biodiversity. Even though visiting the park is not easy and involves flying long hours, the rewards are great.

Loango National Park

The most pristine virgin forests on the African continent can be found in Loango National Park in Gabon. Gorillas, forest elephants, water buffalo, and numerous other types of birds, reptiles, and mammals can be found in the park. Elephants from the forest are among the first to come, and occasionally gorilla families may browse in trees near the shore. The park, known as “The Last Eden,” is well-known for its “surfing hippos” and its recreation of how the world was in the beginning.
